Our Journey...
Every great idea has to start somewhere, here is how RZ World Getawayz started, how it's developed and everything in-between. Everything is growing within RZ World Getawayz so there's a good chance the next time you check back here there will be more added to our journey!
January 2017
Rajanaé lost her son Raheem, at 19 years old to gang crime/culture. She believed that if there were more youth groups or places for young people to go he may not have got caught up in the things he did or ended up where he did.
January 2018-September 2021
This is where RZ World Getawayz started to be born, there was lots of discussions of how the sessions would start, where we saw it growing to and how we could develop and grow. We'll call this our planning stage. It got extended due to COVID-19 too, or we would have probably started sooner.
October 2021
All our plans started to come to fruitation, we secured the use of a minibus, secured a music studio and started to post out flyers and begin to drum up followers on our social media pages etc.
November 2021
We launched RZ World Getawayz, initially starting sessions with a small group of local children, which has continued to grow and grow with each session, with some of our children coming from ALL areas of Leeds.
December 2021
We held our first show in December 2021, A Super Christmas. A Super Christmas, was a Christmas story with a twist, the tale unfolds as the Superheros thought that Jesus was coming to earth to steal their jobs, not realising he is just a baby and Gods son. The kids did amazing, performed three times over the course of two days and did amazing, getting better and better each show. The kids even produced four of their own tracks and recorded them.
August 2022
RZ World Getawayz launched our first ever Summer Camp, the Summer Camp ran for 3 weeks, Monday-Thursday, from 9am-5pm roughly. The Summer Camp involved taking the children out to various locations across Yorkshire and enabling them to experience activities out of their norm.
September 2022
RZ World Getawayz moved into their new office space at the Bethel Apostolic Church, this means that RZ World Getawayz now has a base in which you can find them, office space to help things run smoother as the group begins to grow. This is where all the ideas for RZ World Getawayz will come to life.
January 2023
In January 2023, Leeds Children's Charities at Lineham Farm awarded us partnership status in which we will work with them throughout the year and continue to make a difference in the lives of children across Leeds.
